Are Birbs Real?
Shaggy was staring intently out the window.
I said, “You know, birbs aren’t real.” And he spun around, meowing several times before turning back.
I guess birbs ARE real.
Insurance sucks. Most of the time, I pay into it and get nothing but a birthday card once a year and a bill 2–4 times a year. Thankfully, I haven’t had to deal with insurance lately, but as age takes its inevitable pound of flesh (actually, it seems to be adding them…) I suspect I’ll need the following link sooner or later.

If your insurance claim gets denied, you can fill out a form where most of the data is not sent to the server and generate an appeal letter to send to your “provider.”1 It’s for personal use only, and they don’t warrant or promise that it will get you a settlement, but it’s a tiny bit easier than in the past. Plus, you can fork the code on Github and run it yourself!

And there’s also a page where you can submit your email address and remove your data from their database. Why don’t more companies do that? It should all be that fucking easy!
Finally, and this is something I now look for in every TOS I read, they don’t have “binding arbitration” in their TOS. Since binding arbitration is mostly a way for corporations to bully individuals, it’s nice to see small businesses moving away from this practice.
I just dicsovered that Pirate Software sometimes (?) goes live on YouTube with their ferret cam. They are live right now!

Although the animals must be sleeping, as the only movement is the animated ferrets at the bottom. But I’ll take it. The music is soothing, too. It’s an awesome alternative to obsessing about political polls.
Quick update: a commenter (thanks Adam!) pointed out that they were active about 5 hours ago. So I scrolled back and yep! There are like 20 ferrets running around.

The ferrets live in a ferret sanctuary in Washington state, USA. They are funded directly by the revenue generated by their Twitch live stream.
Thanks to Shaye and everyone at PirateSoftware for providing us with this awesome stream.

calling them a provider seems like a joke, as mostly what they (and most big, enshitified corporations) provide is a lot of denials. ↩︎
